As I took off on my drive from San Diego, California, heading east across the country, I knew I had a long way to go before I got out of the desert. I headed to Yuma the first day, and then up towards Sedona, Arizona the next day. These are just a few of the things I saw that intrigued me along the way.

This is Southern California

As of this post on March 15, 2013, I have spent more time in Southern California than anywhere else in the past 2 years. While since March, 2011 I have driven across the country twice, been to Scotland, and spent lots of time in New York and the east coast, I have spent approximately 13 or 14 months in Southern California. It never ceases to amaze me in its diversity. I guess that’s why the movie industry is here – so much to see within a few hours…not just beaches (but they have them too)

I took a drive to the Salton Sea, for my third visit to Bombay Beach, and I finally checked out Salvation Mountain and Slab City, which were two places I hadn’t seen before. The desert is a weird, weird place. But I kind of love it.

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park

I try to expand my horizons and find new places to see often, but Sunset Cliffs Natural Park in the Point Loma section San Diego has almost had a lock on my attention of late. It has incredible rock formations, strange staircases, trees, surfers, abandonment, varied levels of tides, and all sorts of other things that fascinate me. I can park my car at the same corner of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and have countless photographic choices. All of the photos in this post are taken within a short distance of each other, but by no means on the same day. I hope you enjoy them.

This is my neighborhood

If you haven’t noticed, I travel a lot, and keep bouncing around the country, but for the next 4-5 months, I have found a home in the Point Loma / Ocean Beach area of San Diego. I’m trying to explore it as best I can, and I keep getting drawn to the interesting coastline. There’s a series of strange stairways and paths down to the ocean, that I can’t really understand, but it’s sure fun to check it out.
